After 30 years living in Malaysia, I’m sure before this moment, everyone had tried to use any of the Malaysia government websites before. The ups and downs while using any of the sites, only real Malaysian knew.

Reason 1 — Cheap Hosting

The Malaysian Government Website is often hosted in such a low specification cloud or an on-premise server, leading to error 502 or service unavailable. I don’t think budget is an issue because, for instance, RM70,000,000 (For news source click here source) is allocated for vaccine appointment system, hosting, etc. With this budget, the assumption we can assume that:

  • RM10,000,000 for management, administration, tender, documentation, training.
  • RM20,000,000 for portal development, database integration, frontend development, DevOps salary, developer salary, project manager salary.
  • RM20,000,000 for hosting? (With this amount of budget for hosting, I don’t think you should hesitate to set higher core and RAM plus autoscaling)
  • RM20,000,000 assume this is extra for any part of the items above.
